We have developed a core document-processing capability for a rapidly expanding corpus of published regulations and supported regulatory themes. Your role will be to work closely with tech leadership to roll out the crucial organisational tooling which facilitates it — for internal stakeholders such as crawler engineers, annotators, regulatory analysts, and data scientists — and the customer-facing APIs which realise its value to paying customers & end-users.

Qualifications:

  • More than 2 years of industry experience writing code in any programming language, and an appreciation of industry best practices, such as automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • Experience writing reliable and maintainable web crawlers using a popular scraping framework.
  • Solid grasp of web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and web requests, as well as an appreciation of the HTTP spec and REST APIs.
  • Experience parsing and querying various data formats, such as HTML (using CSS selectors and XPath), XML and JSON.
  • A willingness to work collaboratively with regulatory analysts and other teams that depend on scraped regulatory content.

Nice to have:

  • Solid grasp of Python 3 and JavaScript programming languages.
  • Experience with implementing spiders using the Scrapy framework.
  • Experience with packaging, deploying and running applications on cloud infrastructure using Docker and AWS.
  • Experience running spiders in production and monitoring scrapers with tools such as Sentry and Datadog.
  • A willingness to mentor more junior engineers in the team.

About you:

  • You're experienced in owning solutions to complex problems and relish the opportunity to learn new skills on the job
  • You enjoy working with tech leaders to turn high-level plans into more detailed technical components and be comfortable working in an agile way to deliver working software
  • You’re outcome orientated. You’ll take satisfaction from seeing the results of your work in the hands of internal stakeholders and external users
  • You’re purpose driven. You want to help us make the world of regulation work better
